Mafia .4DS file opening exporting tools or links?

Hi I was directed here by a Programing guru who recommended this site, as the best possible solution to find someone "In the know" who can give me a link or tool to be able to open and import the .4DS car files found in the game Mafia. :oops:

I swear i have been trying since christmas to find a tool or way of opening these bloody things. I have zmodeler V2.2 (paid for ) and Blender, FBX converter,Meshlab etc etc not one of them recognises .4ds! I even read that Zmodeler V1 did open them but i cant find V1 now i downloaded what claimed to be v1 and it turned into v3 etc. :shock:

So PLEASE ANYONE tell me how to open and convert .4DS car files from Mafia. I need to convert them into .3ds or .dae or FBX etc?

Obviously its possible as i see the cars being converted all over Mafia mod site but i still do not know how to open them despite downloading every tool i could find on these sites
