Hello all, I wanted to try to learn some skillsets related to PS3 game modding by looking at a visual novel that would have text to replace.

I saw the happydance had noted here: viewtopic.php?t=2943 that Clannad has scr.psarc.sdat which would be decrypted and have the script be editable, but I have reached the following issue:

- I used make_npdata to decrypt scr.psarc.sdat
- I used psarc from http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PlayStation_archive_(PSARC) linked at http://www.mediafire.com/?o3wy35uublreh to list/extract scr.psarc into about 200 seen####.psb files.

These .psb files don't appear to contain JP text in Notepad or a Hexviewer.

Find attached 7z which contains an example seen####.psb and the decrypted scr.psarc file

yep PSB contains the Japanese text, just its encoded on Shift-JIS and not the commonly used UTF-8

That's fascinating. I hadn't thought of it in that manner. What Hex Editor do you like? I had been using HxD but used Hexacutie to see that Shift-JIS character rendering come up.

Wanted to say thanks for the pointer, I got my first line translated and put back into the game and tested on a CFW PS3.

Seems like a nice distraction project. I know it's super silly since the PC port exists (which I supported on Kickstarter, so it's not like I don't already have the ultimate version) , but I do love the PS3.
