Hi guys, may I attract your attention to yet another format which I'd really like to unpack? It's from a pretty well known title but apparently modding it wasn't big back in the day, there're not specific scripts or programs to make it possible. There's a version of Volition tools by Rick Gibbed designed to deal with *.vpp bigfiles from Saints Row 2 but it doesn't work.

I hope it's possible to write some QuickBMS code to extract contents of such files, I believe in you all! You can find samples here, if you need more just tell me!

Best wishes!

Thanks for the heads-up but this BMS only works on select few files (cs_final_cutscene_2.vpp_xbox2, misc2.vpp_xbox2 or cs_chopshop_chinatown.vpp_xbox2 to name a few - I uploaded complete version of the last file earlier, it's in OP) while my main focus is this group of archives: Music_*.vpp_xbox2. For example the script you posted doesn't unpack Music_GenX.vpp_xbox2 & Music_Other1.vpp_xbox2 (I included cuts from both banks in my sample pack). Even cs_wr09_scene04.vpp_xbox2 (also included in SR1-VPP.7z) can't be extracted with the script, it stops with "incomplete input file" error.

Anyway those archives which can be unpacked without a hitch seem to be compressed while Music_*.vpp_xbox2 look uncompressed, can it be the reason for BMS not working properly? I can UL cs_final_cutscene_2.vpp_xbox2, misc2.vpp_xbox2 & many more example files if it helps.

Later!

I've got another solution for anyone interested: use either Gibbed.RedFaction3.UnPackVPP.exe from volition-r91_b74 tool pack (by Rick Gibbed) or Gibbed.Volition.Unpack.exe from redfactiontoolsv33.
I hope this was useful, till next time!

No, I surely used some other source and that was most likely some attachment in a XeNTaX topic. It looks like finding compiled versions of original Gibbed.Volition tools (not some mods by Minimaul or ThomasJepp) isn't easy nowadays.

I'm confused.
The link I provided seems an official release of Rick and it's also very recent (this August), why an older version of the tool should be better than the current one?

I'm not an user of these tools so I'm asking because I really don't know :)

Maybe an older version of the tool isn't better than the current one but the point is: I got both volition-1.0.0-with-symbols.zip and volition-1.0.0.zip but I couldn't find one of the most important EXEs which should be included in Gibbed.volition, the one that's intended to extract contents of original VPP archives. Both versions found here only contain 2 tiny utilities which do entirely different routines & I'm not interested in them since I'm not a modder.

Now I fully understand what you meant.
Indeed these zip are quite useless since almost all the tools are missing and compiling the source code is painful.

I hate to bump this, but I have the CORRECT tools to use for saints row 1 for xbox 360, as somebody said before the redfaction gibbid tool is great to use to unpack the files, however without modifications to the source the tool was useless to repack.(it would always repack to a filesize way tooo big) Here is that tool, it can unpack and repack to correct filesizes
Download: https://mega.nz/#!4lshlKQA!TsPBEwrIyPQz ... gW5lTuPjCw
Virus Scan: https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/6431e ... /detection

I only made a account here so I can let yall be aware that there is a proper tool to be used for saints row 1 vpp_xbox2 files. My friend gave me this tool a few years back when I wanted to mod saints row 1, so Enjoy! There is a virus scan for anybody thats sceptical from a 1st time poster lol. The tool is 100% safe, but do as you will, i'm just tryna help! Again sorry for the bump, but heres the correct tool. Good luck with whatever you are trying to do with saints row 1.

You must be ripping sounds from Saints Row The Third / IV / Gat out of hell or Red Faction Armageddon if you found *.BNK_XBOX2 files. Anyway that format is some custom container storing typical Wwise tracks with RIFX or RIFF headers, there're many scanners which can extract this type of contents from bigfiles / archives but it's all becoming a bit offtopic. Better send me a PM if you still need an advice / hint.
Cheers!
