I want to view settings.zip in res/raw but it won't open in an archiver, I opened it as hex and all the hex digits are readable starting with "xa" as the header. Any advice on opening it or will someone try? Thanks so much.

I have already seen that xDATAx format.
Are the other files with the same format bigger?
If they are all the same it's probably not data but just some sort of hash or similar: x 0x100 bytes x

Its not in way older versions, that's one thing I know also not 100% sure on files with the same format bigger, that's the only file that uses this format, so far the latest uses this unchanged as v4.21.5 has it used in the same way, heck probably with the same file signature...
