There was a ProjectG1M project (on xentax?) which I could generate a .dll from, April 2024. Drag&drop of g1m onto Noesis gave me this:

MEVC001_Rayleigh-g1m.png

Sadly I don't remember much so you'll need to search in xentax archives for more infos.

edit: Seems it was Joschka's project, compare here, Zenhax archive

Thanks for your help, it seems that the "G1M" file is a 3d model mesh file, but what about the other files (grp, ktid, mtl, oid, oidex). Can you open those files with other tools maybe?

The other files are too small to contain valuable info, imho. (They may contain offsets, indices, whatever.)

How were you able to decode the .oid file? When I open them they're just garbled text reminiscent of when a text encoder is trying to adapt JP text. (Tried Windows-1252 to hex to Shift-JIS but it did not work)

I just used a DWORD representation (32 bit), but the file I checked (MEVC001_Rayleigh.oid) is different from the oid you've tested, I guess.

You could add the extension txt to your oid and it will look like so (wild guess):

; object id,name
;
0,root
11,SK_Neck
12,SK_Head

...

I'm not super experienced so I'm not sure how to go about that, do I just need a specific program that displays it in DWORD 32bit or is there a longer step-by-step process to convert it?

But it's also possible something is wrong with my own export. I'm trying to figure out which assets are associated with which model, they all have a random-looking 8 character string as the file names, since the Cethleann filelist hasn't been updated for the game's DLCs I assume. Though I've been getting a few errors where Cethleann can't find external RDB files (and sometimes where the error is "(File name) is zero!", not sure if that's related.

Regardless, I would hope there's a way to check the mtl files or some similar file for all the associated assets, but they too have the garbled text (oddly short too) like the .oid files when I open them in notepad/wordpad

In a first step HxD should do which has a Data Inspector. (I usually use coding because in most cases there's more than only DWords, so additional formatting is required.)

Also interesting: HexEdit by Andrew W Phillips

Dunno about Cethleann.

There's no text in MEVC001_Rayleigh.mtl but DWords which might be hashes. (Just a wild guess..)

Do you mean coding in a general sense, where I'd have to reproduce specific steps, or is it a toggle or tool in HxD? I don't really know what I need to do to properly format it into readable text.

Just opening one of the extracted .mtl files in HxD is giving the same result as converting the text into hex using online tools, but copying the Decoded text part does warn that "The text copied to the clipboard was filtered. It contained null characters (00h)" so perhaps there is some extra data to decode?

I'm starting to wonder, maybe the files didn't even get extracted properly, given how little apparent data they have. This is the hex of one

Such problems are perfectly answered by AI nowadays, especially with the details.

Google for "how to use datainspector in hxd".

(Better approach would be using coding, of course, but that requires several months of learning as a beginner.)

For the snippet of an mtl you showed coding wouldn't help that much, either.

It would require to use a debugger and set a breakpoint to the mtl loading routine to see whether a DWord like 2B5DE4CA (0xCAE45D2B) is a hash, for example.

I do not have nor will use any ai assistants. Especially when it's regarding esoteric knowledge like this (that you already have the solution for?)

I'm not quite sure why you're so hesitant about sharing your process for how you managed to convert the data into readable text from one of the files, I'm perfectly capable of reproducing the steps if you would give exact instructions instead of speaking in general terms.

A lot of unnecessary back-and-forth could have been avoided if you gave direct instructions to reproduce your process rather than just "idk download hxd and figure it out yourself.. oh i guess you cant. too bad".

I told you that I used DWord representation (as simple as that) and that you can use a hex editor for such.

From my side you're on your own now.

edit: sorry, that I took the time to answer you. It won't happen again.
