Anybody knows how can I edit this .dat file from Children of the Nile?

Hi, I wanna re-play Children of the Nile but now I want to make some modifications to the game. Problem is, the files are .dat and I don't know how to edit them. I tried opening them on https://hexed.it/ but I really don't understand anything from there. Is there any easy way to understand and edit this .dat file? There are others I want to edit, but this one is an example. Thanks in advance!

I chose this file from all others that were .dat because it was already modified so it clearly is possible. If someone is willing to help me, here is the link to where the file was modified:
