Someone could write a tool that generates a lookup cache file that maps .tex IDs to filenames. Once this file is generated, it can be used for faster lookups. The model needs to find .mat IDs too, so at least two lookup caches need to be generated. Each cache file would be about ~26MB (53682*4*128), depending on the length of the filename stored.

Got animation working, partially. Some work ok, some don't. It looks like animation data includes a pivot point, which I haven't completely figured out yet how to bake it into the animation keys. And some vertices don't animate, because I believe they're part of a cloth simulation system. Not sure yet how to assign those to bones.

wow that is an huge progress. Looking forward for a tool/ script to handle models and anims :)

Still working on models, but I can release a D4 texture converter if anyone is interested in that.

Most of the texture formats can be converted, but there might be a couple formats that don't convert. Diablo 4 .tex files use different variations of BCn texture formats, from BC1 to BC7, and I haven't identified them all.

Amazing work. Definitely interested in the texture converter if/when you are ready to release it. I am looking forward to digging through these files.
