Ubisoft Unreal Engine 2 (Open Season (2006) Video Game) .UMD, also .lin (Xbox, Xbox 360, PC) and .liv (latter being exclusive to Xbox 360)

Found this on Github that was from a few months ago, https://github.com/hikarosato/Open-Season-tool

Actually curious if they've ever looked into the .lin and .liv files (the latter having the filenames for everything in the respective .lin files)

Update: It's only in Ukrainian because of the person who made it being from Ukraine, looks like I gotta get out Google Translate for doing anything with this. Also this tool is only for the UMD file, don't know if it's actually able to extract everything or not, plus it's labeled for (PC), but it could still work on the console versions. (Probably copium tbh).

There's a thread about *.lin on Github, I doubt they'll get anywhere there, but who knows ...

Just saw this recently, wish I had actually seen this sooner. Hoping something comes out from this that actually help with datamining and even ripping models and animations among other things.

tbh, Given VendorX's comment here was from November 20th 2025, some progress had to have been made since then, not to mention it's now the year that both this game and the movie it's based on will turn 20 (Doubt either Sony Pictures Animation or Ubisoft will have anything to show to celebrate tbh) Still awesome to see there being any kind of progress on this format given how uncrackable it had been for 2 decades. (Some aspects of .UMD also need that same treatment given some files are dummied out compared to .lin)

(March 2nd 2026 - Decided to go back and cut this down, probably for the best I did.)

Looks like this thread is one year old as of January 7th a few days ago. Here's to more potential progress on this and other UE2 Ubisoft titles from this era.

Briefly checked the PSP version of a Splinter Cell game in comparison to the Open Season game on PSP, sadly can confirm that Splinter Cell runs on Unreal 2 on PSP, but Open Season doesn't, as far as I can tell it doesn't seem to judging by filenames and etc. Honestly don't see why nobody's cracked this game on PSP before.

WIP, but animations are cracked for Open Season. Just gotta figure out the framerate for playback or something, since animations seem to be interpolated to a higher framerate in the game, but I could be wrong.

edit: animation framerate can be rather finicky with this game honestly.
