PS2 - Shinobi (2002) - Sega/OverWorks - Need help to rip models

Featured Replies

Hello,

Apologies in advance if this post is in the incorrect topic area. I want to rip the 3d models from a 24-yr old game on the PS2 - Shinobi (2002) from Sega/OverWorks Studios.

I have looked online and have not found much help with it.

The file in this case is PLAYER00.MLD which is a IZCA/IZMA container that contains the MLX0, which possibly has the model in a T-Pose. I have tried using 3D Model Researcher (3D-MR), QuickBMS and Noesis to no-joy.

Using 3D-MR, I am able to get the vertices but they seem to be replicating on all 3-axis (screenshot attached) including the character's special effects vertices. I am not aware if there any other SEGA games that support it.

I will attach the MLD file, the QuickBMS script I have used as well as the screen shot of 3D-MR (3D View)

I have some basic info such as the start point (0x0c30) of the mesh but it seems the IZCA/IZMA container is a compression container that has shifted the vertex/face info that 3D-MR is not able to capture; tried using QuickBMS to get the MLX info out of the IZCA/IZMA container but I don't know if the script is doing it right. Tried a script with Noesis and that did not work either.

I have spent the entire week trying to work this but I keep hitting a (technical) dead end. In all fairness, I don't what I am doing right/wrong with this. Any success will be a great help.

Have you tried PCSX2-r4600/Ninja Ripper?

YES. But the problem is that the game uses backface-culling, even if I use the GS Dump or Ninja Ripper the face information not in the camera viewport (see attached images) is discarded (probably for performance reasons, if I had to assume.)

The attached images have display the backface-culling issue with GS Dump & Ninja Ripper.

While one image displays the result of 3D-MR capturing all the data to display a very distorted T-Pose.

Lastly, the Noesis Script to open the MLD file, which it fails.

NOTE: Since the site does not allow MLD or BMS, these files are attached a ZIP file.

But why are you doing this?

Because I want genuinely want to learn how to extract data and read hexcode. And It has been a project I have been putting off for far too long.

Can't you find the model rip online?

I checked VG Resource & DeviantArt and I have been unsuccessful in locating a true 1:1 copy from the game.

Finally, I would be very grateful for a DM with the Discord Server Invite of XeNTaX / ZenHAX / ResHax.

Thank you.
