[TUTORIAL] How to translate Unity games using UABEA

Yeah i was using the wrong version of Unity. Hollow Knight updated the game engine to never version, but for the font I had to use the old "2017.4.10f1" version.

Hi, everyone. Maybe someone could help with my trouble. Want to translate one visual novel on Unity and stumbled onto weird behaviour. The game has its texts (mainly dialogues) placed in Game_Data\StreamingAssets\aa\StandaloneWindows64\<filename>.bundle or folder\<filename>.bundle

Translating them with UABEA does no effect - game freezes on loading screen after pressing New Game. Patching catalog.json with metod given above seems to solve it and game runs fine except one thing. A lot of character phrases are voiced over either completely or with one-two words/sounds, and modifying them along with patching catalog.json to run the game refuse these voice overs to play. Only text is being shown. Doesn't matter whether the phrase is fully translated, semi-translated, or a single space added to the original. Additionaly, when I modify phrases back into original (not copying original file but modding back already modded file), voice overs play again. Independent of catalog.json being original or patched. And I can't seem to figure why.

If someone here is familiar with such behaviour or have suggestions on where to dig to solve this issue - I'd appreciate any help.

Hi! I’m trying to translate a new game (demo version of it, full version isn’t out yet) -- Shape of Dreams Demo. I found game’s localization files through Total Commander in resources. When i try to Export Dump with UABEA -- it hits me with this error. I’ve checked it on Github and it says something about CPP2IL dumps. Thank you in advance for your work, you have really helped a lot of people.

edited: "main localization" file (i’m not sure it is, it’s just the name) looks like that.

Hi. Did you check it on the latest nightly version?

Also, what is name of the file you try to export?

What do you mean? Is there some issue on Gtihub? Can you send the link?

Nightly version is the main version now, i guess. File’s name:MainLocalization. I’ve asked about this issue on the github, that’s the answer: https://github.com/nesrak1/UABEA/issues/434.
So i guess with no external help i wont be able to translate this one.

What do you mean? It's standard JSON file, so you can load it directly to CAT program or use some "json converter" tool.

sorry but I'm very unfamiliar with json files. I have so many texts like that, is there any json text merge tool so that it can merge them into one file. then can separate the files back as before. I really need such a tool.

Hello, this is the first time I've posted problems on a site like this, so please be patient.

The problem is that I downloaded a Unity game and tried to translate part of the text, or rather, the dialogue text, without success. I've been doing this process for 4 days straight, both morning and afternoon.

I believe I've tried every possible way, from using all versions of UABEA to creating a .DLL file to translate the game at runtime.

First, I used il2CppDumper to get the game's Assemblies, then I used Arknight (AssetStudio) to preview and export the game files. In the end, I discovered that only two files had the dialogues I was looking for, these being "sharedassets0.assets" and "resources.assets", both of which contain the file "AdvProject.book.asset", which stores all the conversations used in the dialogues.

After that, I tried to edit the "AdvProject.book.asset" file in UABEA, but I received an output that UABEA was unable to deserialize the file. In fact, it was unable to deserialize any MonoBehaviour type file, and there were no plugins in the plugins tab. With that in mind, I tried to import a dump file, but without any success. After saving the changes following the process in tutorials 13 and 14, respectively, and opening the game, it crashes. The funny thing is that if I use a raw file, it works, but changing the bits of that file also causes the game to crash.

After trying to use UABEA, I tried to use BepInEx to do the translation, but to my surprise, no version of it works with the game, returning the message 'Failed to load il2cpp' when trying to run the game. The only version that allowed the game to run (BepInEx_UnityIL2CPP_x64_ec79ad0_6.0.0-be.577.zip) does not support the ilcpp version that the game uses, 29.1.

I've also tried using il2cpp Inspector, which also doesn't support the il2cpp version of the game.

Then I started going crazy, I created a .DLL C++ project to inject the translation forcefully, but the furthest I could get was printing when the method that calls the dialogs is activated, in MessageBoxA. 

Game information:
1. Unity 2022.3.31f1
2. IL2CPP Version 29
3. Related to Japanese Visual Novels.

Extra information:
1. UABEA Nightly releases were deleted, the only one left was UABEA Next, which also didn't work, generating the same return as the other versions.
