Can anyone help me extract the files from NFS Carbon: Own the City from Zeebo/PSP versions ?

Hello, I'm kind of new here, I've been trying to extract and create mods for some Zeebo games (I had some success with Quake 1 and 2 as they are practically the PC version but running on Zeebo), my next step was to try do some modding with Zeebo's version of Need for Speed Carbon Own the City, which is a direct port of the PSP version. (it is also available on GBA and DS, but the Zeebo version is a direct port of the PSP with even some leftovers such as backgrounds, PSP icons and online mode disabled within the files)

I have had some success extracting the .big files from both the PSP and Zeebo versions using QuickBMS with the code line ea_big4.bms

But I didn't have much luck with the .viv files, I used Dragon UnPACKer but all I had was several .o / .apt / .const / .msh and other files types.

I have no idea how to open these files but I believe it is related to the 3D model of the cars or perhaps the 2D textures.

The .dds and .msh files in particular I was able to open using a program called Texture Finder, but it doesn't seem to have loaded correctly as the image appears broken/corrupted.

I believe the .viv files contain the car 3D models, I tried to find a VIV Editor that I found but I had no luck opening the files.

Does anyone have a tip for a newbie?, I really want to be able to mod the PSP and Zeebo version or at least be able to extract the assets, especially from the Zeebo version since it is such a unique and unknown console.

Here is the game in the extracted Zeebo version if anyone has more luck, I left some files that might help:

PS: Sorry for my bad english, I'm brazilian.

Sorry, this one should work:

I've put together the main files from the PSP and Zeebo versions along with some tools I tried using.

Here is an example of a .big file and a .viv file if you don't want to download everything:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1H9fpo3u1CZ33mowvxnok5mBFzZO7mrrN/view?usp=sharing

I have had some success with .msh files that were not inside a .big or .viv file (i.e. that I didn't need to extract because it was already present in some folder), but any .msh or .viv file that I try to extract it doesn't give me any preview, it even gives me some information about the file, but nothing more.

image.thumb.png.76968e09132770c21f42e8b221faa2f8.png

I don't know if it's a problem when extracting or if the program is simply not compatible with this version, I tried it with the Zeebo and PSP versions, both gave me the same problem.

I really want to be able to mod this game, even if it's just changing a texture but I can hardly find any modding programs made specifically for the PSP version of the Need for Speed games, let alone the Zeebo version.

The closest I can get to opening the .msh files is using TextureFinder v2.1 By IceBerg, but even then the image appears broken.

I'll try it as soon as I get home, thank you very much.

[EDIT]

I tried to use the script to extract allcars.viv but it gave me this error:

ELdbJf3.thumb.png.a9d575f10eeff20f539ec8532d46c171.png

I used the old script that I was using to extract allcars.viv ( ea_big4.bms ) and then I tried to use one of the files such as GOLF for .viv to extract with the script you sent me, but it gave me this:

sou5wD2.png.5a9d4fb2e59e766630a128d6e190f29f.png

Do you want me to try with the .big files?

[EDIT]

I ended up testing it just out of curiosity, and I managed to extract the .big file using the script you sent me:

aUN6zk8.png.8943d8540c32db873cfc62cfc363d47b.png

But unfortunately it still doesn't quite work with the tools.

Type 115 is now supported in v0.17.1 version https://github.com/bartlomiejduda/EA-Graphics-Manager/releases/tag/v0.17.1

For preview only. Bet export feature will be available probably in the next release.

OMG, THIS IS GREAT NEWS.

I haven't tried it yet but I can't wait to test it, it's finally good to see support for the files from the Zeebo and PSP version of Need for Speed.

[Edit]

I tested with some files from Zeebo's Need for Speed Carbon: Own the City - Domine a Cidade.

Here are some results:

\nfsresources\fe_menu\genericbackground.big\GenericBackground.msh :

Qo6yt4P.png.0fb9c9ac4bb83b56c0bfc3339cc5fc44.png

\nfsresources\fe_menu\mainmenu.big\MainMenu.msh :

GqC1JL1.thumb.png.0000ab2564fd88ca4ba70bcad44bfcf5.png

\nfsresources\fe_movies\scene00.big\scene00.msh :

lH3r3kO.png.26e9488b9ea29adb4b5dba70a816de98.png

\nfsresources\fe_movies\easplash.big\EAsplash.msh :

X8NqeDk.png.b9d8e0c68cee9df364b2119787385b43.png

It seems that all the ones I extracted from the .big files worked without problems, that's when I decided to extract the .viv files using the same script ( ea_big4.bms ), some textures appeared, others didn't.

\nfsresources\cars\allcars.viv\GOLF.viv\GOLF.msh :

GGynynn.thumb.png.a3ac4482085527af08ebf5d150618f25.png

\nfsresources\hud\hudenglish.viv\common.msh\commonEnglish.msh :

l2rQduL.thumb.png.59fe5b09eb7e6c004a3e75b4e3d9559f.png

But still, it's so good to finally be able to view these files properly, thank you very much for that, really.

I can't wait to try making some modifications to the Zeebo or PSP version and see how they perform.

I've released two more versions since my last post here. 😄 v0.17.9 and v0.18.4.
The most advanced one currently is v0.18.4, it has support for Refpack compressed files and it has "Export to DDS" feature which is really helpful while exporting.

You can always find newest release at this link --> https://github.com/bartlomiejduda/EA-Graphics-Manager/releases

Unfortunately image types 113, 114 and 118 from Zeebo game are not supported in the newest version. I haven't figured those one's  yet.
Also importing and encoding images is not supported yet, keep that in mind.

Thank you very much, I will download and check it right now, I'm very happy that I can finally view the Zeebo version files. (and it's also great to see the PSP version of NFS Carbon: Own the City getting some support too)

I know it's probably not an easy job, but do you think it will be possible to export or import/modify these files someday?

Hey, I don't know if this is of interest to you, but the Zeebo emulator (Infuse) had its first build released: https://x.com/StuffZeebo/status/1792305890973958620

Unfortunately only 3 games are supported so far, I hope they add support for NFS Carbon Own The City soon, it would help a lot to be able to test some modifications that I want to make without the need to move to the console all the time, especially since the game It will crash on Zeebo if there is an incompatible file.
